SelfOS — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 July 2026
SelfOS ("the app", "we") is a personal life-logging application that lets you record structured events across your life — money, food, health, work, and the people you're in touch with — and turns them into private insights. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it.
SelfOS is operated by Mahendra Yadav (contact: support@selfoshq.com). The app is intended for individual personal use.
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Your email address and a securely hashed password, used only to sign you in.
- A display name you choose.
Data you log
Everything in SelfOS is entered by you. Depending on which features you use, this can include:
- Financial entries — amounts you spent, lent, received or invested, and any salary/EMI/asset details you add to your financial profile.
- Food & health — meals, weight, and other health metrics you record.
- Relationships — names of people you add, and calls/interactions you log with them.
- Work, tasks, notes and custom events you create.
- Optional meal photos and voice notes you choose to submit for automatic parsing.
Notifications
- If you enable notifications, a Firebase Cloud Messaging device token is stored so we can send you your daily brief and reminders.
How you use the app
To understand which parts of SelfOS are useful and where it is confusing, we record basic usage activity: which screens you open, which buttons you tap, and whether an action succeeded or failed — along with your app version, Android version, and device model.
- This never includes the content you log. We record that you saved a money entry, not the amount; that you sent a message to Orbit, not the message; that a voice note was parsed and how long it was, not what you said.
- Some of this is recorded before you sign in (for example, opening the sign-up screen), tied to a random identifier generated on your device. It is not linked to your identity until you create an account, and it is not an advertising identifier.
- This is our own analytics — we do not embed any third-party analytics or advertising SDK, and this activity is not sold or shared.
The Play Store version of SelfOS does not read your SMS messages or call logs. Those permissions are not requested and the related features are disabled. It also does not connect to Spotify or any other music service — that integration is switched off, and no listening history leaves any account.
2. How we use your information
- To store and display your logged data back to you.
- To generate personal insights, trends, correlations, and a daily brief from your own data.
- To power assistive features (the Orbit chat assistant, voice logging, and meal-photo nutrition estimates) that you explicitly invoke.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
3. Third-party processing
To provide the assistive features, some content you submit is sent to third-party services strictly to process your request:
- Anthropic (Claude) — when you use voice logging, meal-photo analysis, the Orbit chat assistant, or narrated insights, the relevant text or image you submitted is sent to Anthropic's API to produce the result. See Anthropic's privacy terms at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — used to deliver push notifications.
These services process the submitted content only to return a result to the app. You can avoid third-party processing by not using the optional voice, photo, and chat features.
4. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on a private server operated by us (Google Cloud, India region), in a database accessible only to the app's backend. Transport security depends on your deployment; we aim to serve all traffic over HTTPS.
5. Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept until you delete it. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:
- In the app: Profile → Delete account. This immediately and irreversibly erases your account and every record tied to it across all features, with the single anonymization exception noted below.
- By email: if you cannot access the app, email support@selfoshq.com from your registered address and we will delete your account and data.
Full details are on our account & data deletion page.
One exception: the usage activity described in section 1 (which screens were opened, which buttons were tapped) is anonymized rather than erased. When you delete your account we permanently strip both identifiers from those records — the link to your account and the random device identifier — so they can no longer be traced back to you or re-linked if you sign up again from the same device. What remains is anonymous counts we use to understand overall app usage. It contains none of the data you logged.
6. Your rights
Consistent with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may access, correct, or delete your personal data. Account deletion (above) removes it entirely; for access or correction requests, contact us at the email below.
7. Children
SelfOS is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
